Gavin Simpson - Facilities Manager
At Crewkerne RFC, the facilities manager ensures the club maintains a consistent identity across the club and ensures that appropriate kit and equipment is available for all teams. Gavin arranges and purchases all equipment for the club, keeps an up-to-date list of all the club’s kit and equipment and is responsible for storing, arranging, washing and repairing all kit and equipment.
Gavin has a wealth of rugby history, where he has been playing rugby consistently from the age of 10. He initially started playing at Lampeter Comprehensive School for Boys before playing for; West Wales District XV, Lampeter RFC, Llandovery Drovers, Aberaeron RFC, Llansawel RFC before heading over the border to play for Wellington RFC. Gavin also has an extensive coaching CV, coaching as; Lampeter RFC Under 19s head coach, Scarlets Under 19s district head coach, Llansawel RFC seniors head coach and Wellington RFC senior coach. Gavin initially played for Crewkerne’s Veterans side, where he was persuaded to apply for the vacant head coach role at Crewkerne. He was appointed men’s head coach for the 2019/20 season, which saw the first team gain promotion to Somerset Prem, while also appearing for the second team.
Gavin has recently joined the club as the men’s head coach, in his first season at the club he coached the first team to promotion and prepared the second team for league entry in the following season. Since joining the club, Gavin has shown a keen interest into how the clubs run and has appeared at many ladies and junior sessions, which resulted in him applying for the facilities role within the club. As facilities manager he will ensure the club has the required levels of equipment to continue to grow in the way it has over the past two seasons.
